PLEASURE POINT BUSINESS ASSOCIATION
MINUTES OF THE MARCH 1, 2006 BUSINESS MEETING
Call to Order
The meeting was called to order by President, Kim Tolleson, at 12:05 p.m.
Members present:

Reading of the Minutes and Treasurers Report from February 2006 meeting Kim/Sally
- Amend V.P. report to read “monthly” mixers, not quarterly.
- General Discussion amended to read “Paul” not Ken raised issues of banners.
- Amend Communications Director’s Report
(a) New members are: David King of Thunderbird Real Estate, Jean Bathke Massage Therapist, Portola Hair, and Gino’s Carco Santa Cruz Auto Recycling.
(b) Discussion of Abbas correct spelling of Abbas’ name in two places.

MOTION: Jeff moved to adopt minutes with noted corrections, Jean seconded, motion passed unanimously.
President’s Agenda Overview Kim Tolleson
- Kim thanked the following individuals: Jackie for her work on the very successful February Mixer; Sally for the February minutes; Jeff for the new guide and website update; and Shirley for her work on bringing in new members.
- Emphasized the use of email addresses for notification of upcoming meetings and events no more phone calls prior to the meetings.
- Transfer of Treasurer duties from Shirley to Sally will take place in March.
- Robin West of Round Robin was featured in the Sentinel.
- Discussion about promoting businesses and at the monthly mixers acknowledging individuals who get press.
Vice President’s Report Jackie Heath
- Kim sat in for Jackie and gave her report.
- March Mixer will be at Premier Real Estate, 747 41st Avenue, Ste. F, next to Santa Cruz Surf Shop. The theme will be tropical and will be catered by Aloha Island Grille.
- Big Thanks to Mary Beth and Rebecca for the very well attended February Mixer. The food and atmosphere were excellent!
- PPBA members will be notified two times via email before each mixer.
Marketing Director’s Report Jeff Bettencourt
- Banners: Triad Electric confirmed that banners would be properly installed by next Friday March 10th. Kim suggested that after banners are up we reassess size, design, etc. Jeff said Phase II of the banner project would provide the opportunity resize banners and possibility of creating specialty banners for PPBA events, such as the Sidewalk Sale.
- PPBA Guide: The guide is complete as of March 1. Approximately one week turn around time for printing. The Guide will be unveiled at the March 16th Mixer.
Communications Director’s Report Shirley Allen
Shirley submitted notes of correspondence received as follows:
- 2/8/6: Live Oak Neighbors Newsletter announced meeting on 2/14/06 discussion about proposed New United Methodist Church on 17th Ave.
- 2/25/06: Note from member Colleen Bellows, Pre-Paid Legal Services saying that she enjoyed the February Mixer that, “Rebecca’s Mighty! did an awesome job as host” and she is looking forward to the March Mixer.
- 2/25/06: Letter from Santa Cruz County Conference & Visitor’s Council regarding updating their database.
- 2/25/06: February issue of Santa Cruz Small Business Monthly magazine
Abbas Haghshenas has completed Planning Commission Board hearings for his development at 3911 Portola Drive. The matter is now before the Coastal Commission for approximately two weeks. The property will have retail shops and 17 condominiums, two of which will be designated “affordable housing”.
Shirley Allen will serve on the newly formed Transportation Funding Task Force, which is sponsored by the Regional Transportation Commission. Purpose of the 80 member Task Force is to determine the future of local transportation improvements in Santa Cruz County. First meeting of the Task Force will be March 23rd. Shirley will give reports of this Task Force at future PPBA meetings.
Welcome New Members: A Bridal Boutique, Advanced Health Center, and Great Stuff. There are now 92 PPBA members in good standing.
